This project has been funded and conducted by Undersea Explorer through adventure diving tourism. Public awareness of shark conservation needs have been highlighted through the involvement of recreational divers and the production of international film documentaries and articles.

The experience of divers on these liveaboard diving adventures has been heightened by interaction with the scientists, quality interpretive presentations and exciting and unique shark diving.

Shark research expeditions on Undersea Explorer

Trip dates: Throughout the year, 6 days/6 nights

20-22 dives on the Ribbon Reefs and Osprey Reef, Coral Sea

The Coral Sea is well known for its sharks. Nowhere is this more evident than North Horn - Osprey Reef where the currents meet, bringing together large schools of tuna, barracuda and sharks. WE call this the big blue - 1000 metre walls, caves, overhangs and resident sharks. - whitetips, grey and silvertip whalers, leopard sharks, thresher sharks and seasonal schooling hammerheads. Share experiences with shark experts while enjoying all the exhilarating dives of our regular Coral Sea Adventure.

Your shark adventure will include:

  • Tagging and tracking individual sharks

  • Recording shark behaviour patterns

  • Creating photo identification and database programs

  • Conducting growth and breeding studies

  • Blue water shark exploration
